According to the "Pioneer History" columns by Richard C. Schmal, which appeared in the Lowell Tribune (March 26, 1980 and April 30, 1980), David Agnew came to Pleasant Grove with his wife and in-laws, the Bryant family, in the beginning of April 1835. When a terrible snowstorm hit on April 4 of that year, Mr. Agnew lost his way in the storm and perished. This was the first death among the settlers of Pleasant Grove.
David Agnew was buried on Morgan Prairie in Porter County, and his wife Nancy took over their claim.
