Paul Arnold Home Last Week
Paul Arnold, S 1/c, was in Lowell last week visiting friends, following his return to the U.S. from the Pacific war zone. Attesting the fact that he has "been around," is the valuable collection of newspapers, boomerang, Jap machine gun bullets and shrapnel, beads, pictures, and money from Australia, Hawaii, and New Caledonia, which are now on display in Fred Minninger's window. Paul's father is telegraph operator at the Shelby depot.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 1, 1945, issue (page 4, column 1):
News received from Paul Robert Arnold, G.M. 2/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. K.V. Arnold, Thayer, states that he has completed his schooling at advanced gunner's school in San Diego, Calif., and has returned to San Francisco. He has served three years in the Pacific aboard a heavy cruiser and has seen action in ten major engagements. He has been assigned to a new ship and will be leaving soon for the battle front again, this time as captain of a gun crew on this ship.
