Sgt. and Mrs. Charles W. Bennett have returned to Washington, D.C., after a two week's visit which included Presque Isle, Maine, the home of T/Sgt. and Mrs. Bruce Jacques and family, Mrs. Bennett's sister; a visit to Niagara Falls and Canada; Crown Point, Indiana, the home of Mrs. Bennett's mother, and New Florence, Pa., the home of Sgt. Bennett's mother. Sgt. Bennett is a member of the Third "Old Guard" Infantry Regiment, which is known as "the President's own," stationed at Fort Myer, Virginia. Mrs. Bennett, the former Harriet Hoevet of Lowell, is employed by the federal government.
The following May 24, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 5:
Sgt. 1/c and Mrs. C.W. Bennett of Fort Myer, Virginia, are guests of her mother, Mrs. Emory Heldt, of Crown Point, and Lowell relatives. Lowell friends should address messages to Sgt. 1/c C.W. Bennett, Co. A, 3rd Inft. Regt., Fort Meyer, 11, Virginia.
The following August 16, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, column 2:
S/F.C. C.W. Bennett and Mrs. Bennett enjoyed a visit with Lowell relatives and friends last week. S/F.C. Bennett has been transferred from Ft. Meyer, Va., to 114 Fifth N.E., Washington, D.C.
The following November 22, 1951, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 3:
Sergeant First Class Charles W. Bennett writes his wife, daughter of Mrs. Emery Heldt, from Korea that he is near the 38th parallel. His duty with the 3rd Infantry, regular army, is alternated with electrical school. Mrs. Bennett, formerly of Lowell, is a government employee in Washington, D.C. She recently had as her guest, Miss Virginia Clark of Virginia's Beauty Shop. Mrs. Heldt's son, Pfc. Clayton Hoevet, was her guest for a few days recently when enroute from Panama City, Florida, to Chanute Field, Rantoul, Ill., where he reported for 10 weeks of electrical schooling.
The following January 3, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, columns 3-4:
Mrs. Harriet H. Bennett received word this week that her husband, Charles, has received a commission as Warrant Officer, j.g. Mr. Bennett wears the USNR Medal, Naval Good Conduct Medal, Korean Service Medal with 2 battle stars, Good Conduct Ribbon, UN Ribbon and the Expert Infantryman's Badge. Graduated from New Florence, Pa., high school in 1948, he enlisted in the army in August of that year. At the present time he is serving in Korea. Mrs. Bennett is continuing with her work in Washington, D.C.
The following October 23, 1952, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
Letters addressed to WOJG Charles W. Bennett, W-2151386, C. Btry, 65th AAA Gn. Bn., AOP 331, c/o PM, San Francisco, Calif., will be delivered to the new ranch home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bennett located on the island of Okinawa. Completing ten months of service in Korea, "Chuck" was transferred to Okinawa where his wife joined him on September 20. Mrs. Bennett left her position with the FBI in Washington, D.C., on August 21st and drove to the west coast. She and her car were transported to the island aboard the USS Randall. Enroute cross country she visited Lowell relatives and friends, spending a few days with her parents, the Emery Heldts, in Crown Point. Stopping for car service in Cheyenne, Wyo., Mrs. Bennett met Mr. and Mrs. Wesley McKinney, Peggy and William of Creston.
