George Berg, 76, passed away at his home, 417 E. Windsor Rd., Glendale, Calif., on Mar. 8 following an illness of three months. Born in Illinois, George came to Lowell with his parents, Nicholas and Elizabeth Berg, when a very small boy. For many years he was one of Lowell’s progressive businessmen. He built and operated the West Side Hardware which he sold to Goodwin and Johnston about 1920. Soon after, he and his family moved to Glendale where he ran a sporting goods store until illness forced his retirement three months ago. His wife is the former Matilla Meyers, a native of the Lowell community. The Bergs’ two daughters and three sons were born and reared in Lowell. Survivors include his wife; daughters, Mrs. Edward Beckman of Gary; Mrs. Paul Andrews of North Hollywood, Calif; sons, Dr. Paul Berg, DTS, of Glendale; Jordan Berg of Redlands and Walter Berg, also of Glendale; 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Mrs. Ida Viant of Lowell is a sister. Memorial services and interment were held in Glendale.
