Mrs. Louis Berg

Helena Berg was born in Erwitte, Germany, May 7, 1847. She came to America with her parents, when a young woman and settled in Lake county, Indiana, where she resided during her life time.

On April 13, 1869, she was married to Louis Berg, who died April 24, 1916. To this union were born twelve children: Mrs. Ernest Kuehl, of Westbrook, Minn.; Bernard Berg, of Stutgart, Ark.; Catherine Berg, who died in infancy; Mrs. Mat Miller, of Crown Point; Anna Berg, who died at the age of 29 years; Tracy Berg, of Rexville, Indiana; Mrs. Albert Tramm, of Jackson, Minn.; Louis J. Berg and Mrs. Joseph Eich, of Lowell; Mrs. William Ameling, of Rexville, Indiana; and Mrs. Charles Eich of Shelby, with whom she made her home the past two years. She passed away on Tuesday, January 13, 1920, after a short illness, at the home of her daughter, Tracy Berg at Rexville, at the age of 72 years, 8 months, and 6 days.

She was indeed a true christian wife and mother, and devoted all her life to her home, family and religion. She wished nothing more than to be of service to her family and others, and was loved and respected by all with whom she came in contact in her daily life. Her true christian character made her a good friend and neighbor, and she could count her friends by scores.

She leaves to mourn their loss of her two sons, seven daughters, 44 grandchildren, two great-grand-children, one brother, B.H. Berg, of Hammond, 2 sisters, Miss Louise Berg of Lowell and Mrs. Mary Webber of Chicago, and a great many other relatives and friends, by whom her loss will be keenly felt.

Funeral services were conducted at Rexville, Ind., on Thursday at 10 a.m., Rev. F. Koenig officiating at solemn requiem high mass, assisted by Rev. Wm. Berg, of Scherrerville, and Rev. Kahelek, of Gary, after which the remains were brought to the home of her son, Louis Berg, at Lowell. Services were conducted at St. Edwards Catholic church, Lowell, on Friday at 10 a.m. Rev. Charles Scholl officiating, assisted by Rev. F. Koenig, of Rexville, and Rev. Badina, of St. John, Ind.

Bernard Beckman, P.A. Berg, David Bruckman, Anton Govert, Henry Govert and George Kimmet acted as pallbearers. The Holy Rosary society, of which deceased was a member, attended in a body.

Interment in St. Edwards church cemetery.
