Now In the Navy
A letter from Thomas Bergin, of Wanatah, a former Lowell boy, informs us he is now a member of Uncle Sam's navy and is taking his "boot" training at Great Lakes naval training station. Tom says he will have his first training completed some time in December at which time he will get a 9-day leave.
The following January 18, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 7, column 4:
Completes Boot Training
Thomas Bergin has completed his "boot" training at Great Lakes, and spent his leave with his father, Wm. Bergin, at Wanatah. Tom was here last week for a short visit with friends at his old home. He will attend school in Chicago the next few weeks.

Attending School in Florida
Thomas Bergin, S2/c, a former Lowell boy, wrote the C.U. Ragons that he is going to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., where he will attend radar school. He expects to be there about two months before taking up his duties aboard ship.
