Erehart Bixenman (1852-1925)

Erehart Bixenman was born in Bremen, Germany, Feb. 8, 1852, and passed away at his home near Crown Point, Sept. 27, 1925, at the age of 73 years, 7 months and 19 days. At the age of two years he, with his parents, came to America, settling at Hanover Center, Ind., and he has lived all his life in Lake county, most of which he spent in Crown Point, Lowell and immediate vicinity.

He was married to Johanna Beerk, Feb. 8, 1876, who has been his companion for nearly half a century. To this union were born five children -- Lillian, dying in infancy; Mrs. Fred J. Sanger, of Lowell; Mrs. George N. Horst, Edward and William, of Crown Point.

For a number of years he with his family resided in Lowell until 1899 when [he] was appointed Superintendent of the Lake County Alms House, which position he faithfully filled for a term of eight years.

He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife, two sons, two daughters, eleven grand-children, two brothers, of Grand Island, Nebr., one sister, of Ringgold, Texas, and a host of other relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at his late home by Rev. Thomas H. Adkins, pastor of the Presbyterian church, and the remains were placed in the mausoleum at Maplewood cemetery. The following acted as pall-bearers: Charles Pfell, Wm. Knopf, Chas. Krohn, Geo. Schmal, Frank Schlemer, Peter Schroeder.
