A former Lowell resident, he was graduated from Lowell high school with the class of 1905 and played football with Lowell's illustrious town squad. Through the years he kept in touch with home folks via the Tribune and an annual visit. In 1949 he came to attend the dedication of Lowell's new athletic field. He died in Henry Ford hospital after a short illness.
Mr. Bowlus was a plant layout engineer for General Motors Corporation from 1935 until his retirement two years ago. Since that time he had served in a consulting capacity.
He is survived by a son, William, of Hibbing, Minn., and sisters, Mrs. Georgia Hulbert of Orleans, Mich., and Mrs. H.S. Armstrong of Grayling, Mich.
Funeral services and burial were in Detroit.
