When about four years of age with his father and mother and eight brothers and sisters he moved to Laporte county, Ind. At the age 12 he went to Kankakee county, Ill., near Manteno and worked on a farm.
In 1864 he married Minerva Stearman, who died January 4, 1915, journeying life's way together for 51 years. Two children were born to them -- Willie, who died in infancy, and Frank C., with whom he made his home at the time of his death.
September 29, 1917, he united in marriage with Miss Sarah Manning who in a most kindly way ministered to him in his last days.
He and his wife were members of the Methodist church at Momence for many years. On moving to Lake county, Indiana, in 1907 they transferred their membership to the Presbyterian church at Schneider. After the death of his wife, on October 16, 1916, Mr. Brown became a member of the Belshaw M.E. church on the Lowell charge, retaining his membership there until his death.
He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Sarah; his son, Frank; three grand-children; two great-grand-children and numerous other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at Momence by Rev. C.A. Brown. Interment was made in Momence cemetery, in charge of Undertaker Sheets.
