A lifetime resident of West Creek, Lyrrel was born Sept. 16, 1887, the daughter of Eldon and Lizzie (Hayden) Hayhurst.
On January 22, 1908, she was married to Ervin J. Brown, and they were the parents of four children: Glen of Lombard, Ill., Maxine Kolb of East Peoria, Ill., Aline Patchett of Lowell, and Roger of Milwaukee.
Surviving with her husband and children are two sisters: Mrs. Elanor Strickland of Gary and Mrs. Rubie Petrie of Jeffersonville; one brother, Kitchell Hayhurst of Lowell; also 11 grandchildren, a half-brother, Marion Hayhurst of Fort Wayne, and a half sister, Evelyn Fogler of Gary, besides a host of friends.
Mrs. Brown had enjoyed good health until her last illness and with her husband usually spent the winter in Florida. She was actually interested in club work and was a charter member of the Obadiah Taylor chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and of the West Creek Home Demonstration club, and was affiliated with the First Methodist church of Lowell.
Memorial services were conducted in the Eskridge Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Monday, August 13, with the Rev. Claude Eaton and Rev. E.L. Worley officiating. Interment was made in the West Creek cemetery, with John Eskridge in charge.
