On an errand for his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Campbell to pick up the mail from their box on the west side of the highway on the corner of Kubish road and the Lowell-Cedar Lake road, 8-year-old Creighton C. Campbell was killed as he crossed to return home. The accident occurred at 6:15 p.m., Saturday, November 6.
The 1941 Chevrolet driven by Leslie Golumbeck of Whiting (who is building a new home a Lake Dalecarlia) was going north toward Cedar Lake, when it struck the youngster. The driver called the Eller ambulance who said that the boy was dead on their arrival.
Surviving besides his grief stricken parents are a sister, Diane, 6, and his maternal, grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Gus Oman, of Cedar Lake, and paternal grandmother, Mrs. Anna Campbell of Hammond.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, November 9, at 2 p.m., at the Eller Funeral Chapel. Rev. Willard T. Leavens of the Cedar Lake Church of Christ officiated. Burial was in the Lowell cemetery.
Creig, as he was known to his friends, was a second grade pupil at MacArthur school.
