Mr. Carlin was a charter member of the local lodge, B.P.O. Elks, a charter member of the St. Vlateur council, Knights of Columbus and a charter member of the Kankakee Country Club.
Funeral services were held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in St. Patrick's church. The funeral party then left by auto for Chenoa, Ill., where interment took place in Mount Calvary cemetery. The body was removed from the J.P. Hickman funeral home to the Carlin residence where friends called to view it.
Mr. Carlin was born April 19, 1872, at Chenoa. He worked on his father's farm and attended the University of Illinois until the age of 21. He later opened a store at Fairbury, moving to Kankakee four years later. In 1902 he organized the real estate firm of Carlin Brothers.
Mr. Carlin was married July 2, 1906, to Olive Down, who survives him. He also leaves the following five children: John Charles, Francis Patrick, Olive Cecelia, Mary Ellen and James Joseph. Two brothers, Patrick J. Carlin, of Kankakee, and B.F. Carlin, of Detroit, also survive, as well as one sister, Mrs. John Degnan, of Lowell, Ind.
