The following article was found in the May 18, 1944, Lowell Tribune on page 5, column 4:
Mr. and Mrs. Lisand Bales and Mrs. George Rosenbauer and sons, George, Jr. and Billy, went to Delphi, Saturday, for a week-end visit with Mrs. Bales' sister, Mrs. Chas. Combs. On arriving they found a nephew, Seaman David Combs, home on furlough. He is a veteran of naval action on the Admiralty Islands and Truk, and [this] was his first furlough home in two years.
