Peter Dahlke

Requeim mass for Peter Dahlke, 319 North West Street, will be conducted by Father Joseph Hammes, Father Joseph Wonderly and Father Vernon Rosenthal in St. Mary's church Friday morning at 9:30. The services, with graveside rites at Holy Name cemetery in Cook, will mark the instant passing of a man widely respected and liked throughout southern Lake County.

His death Tuesday afternoon shortly before 4 o'clock came as consequence of a freak accident in which he was thrown from a dump truck as it was being unloaded at the Crown Point garage of the Lake County highway department, for which he worked.

As a 3000-pound iron ball, used to crush road surfaces, was being unloaded from the truck it rolled to the back edge of the lift, witnesses said, throwing it up sharply and hurling Mr. Dahlke from the lift bed ledge near the cab into the air. As he fell his head struck the handle of a nearby tar kettle, injuring him fatally. He had worked for the county highway department as a truck crew road repairman since last October.
