The following June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 4:
Open house was held at the Boyd Davis home in Hammond in honor of their son, S/Sgt. Ben Davis, an aerial gunner, who was home on furlough from Nebraska, last week. Mrs. Franklin Petry and daughter, Mrs. Persis Stealy, attended from here.
The following October 12, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2 column 1:
Former Lowell Boy Killed in Action Sept. 12
S/Sgt. Benjamin Davis, 22, son of Mrs. and Mrs. Boyd Davis of Hammond, former Lowell residents, has been listed as killed in action Sept. 12, after a previous telegram from the war department had reported him missing on that date. An engineer - gunner on a B -24 Liberator, S/Sgt. Davis and his group had been engaged in long range shuttle bombing missions.
He entered service June 9, 1941, leaving Hammond Technical high school to volunteer for army duty. He left for overseas on August 4 of this year.
