Ray Dilbeck

RAY DILBECK WITH 8TH INFANTRY DIVISION

Private Ray Dilbeck, son of Mr. and Mrs. J.A. Dilbeck of Lowell is currently undergoing his final week of a 14-week cycle in infantry training with "Service" Company 28th Regiment of the famed 8th Infantry Division at Fort Jackson, S.C.

Private Dilbeck attended Crown Point high school and prior to his induction last January he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad in Chicago.

Upon completion of 14 weeks of training, Private Dilbeck will have fired most of the light infantry weapons, engaged in practical squad and platoon problems, and undergone intensive training in physical education in preparation for duty as a service or combat type replacement.

With the 1st Cav. Div. in Korea -- Pfc. Ray Dilbeck, husband of Mrs. Lule M. Dilbeck, Lowell, Ind., has been awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge, a symbol of close quarter fighting with the enemy, while serving with the 1st Cavalry Division in Korea. The Badge, consisting of a miniature replica of a Revolutionary War flintlock mounted on a blue background superimposed on a silver wreath, distinguishes the actual fighting men from rear area and service troops. Dilbeck is fighting with the 1st Division's 5th Cavalry Regiment.
