John Burnis "Buck" Doty (1913-1958)

A May 11, 1944, Lowell Tribune article (page 1, column 5) lists John B. Doty of Shelby as one of 26 registrants of the local Selective Service board, Crown Point, who was inducted into the army a week previous. Sixteen men of the group, including Mr. Doty, were fathers.

The following Dec. 4, 1958, Lowell Tribune article was found in the Lowell Public Library's local history clippings file (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 5, page 53):

Memorial Rites Friday for "Buck" Doty

Buck was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He held membership in the American Legion and the Shelby Church of Christ, and his occupation was brick masonry.

He was born in Shelby June 26, 1913, the son of Howard and Mary (Latta) Doty and was married to Tressa Henson of Shelby.

Surviving with his wife, Tressa, are two daughters, Mrs. Doris June Lindsey of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Mrs. Tressa Ann Prohosky of Rensselaer; also five grandchildren, two sisters, Mrs. Lyle Ruley and Mrs. Martin Bunte, both of Lowell, and a brother, Bob of Shelby; besides a wide circle of friends and other relatives.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2 p.m.in the Sheets Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 5, with Rev. E.L. Worley, pastor of the Shelby Church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be in the Roselawn cemetery.
