Rachel Ferguson (1805-1889)
(Mrs. Samuel Ferguson)
The following unidentified newspaper article was in a collection owned by Lowell Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Grandma Ferguson, of West Creek Township, died April 3 of general debility. The old lady had reached the ripe age of nearly 84 years. She settled in West Creek between 30 and 40 years ago and has resided there ever since. She was the mother of eight children, seven of which preceded her to the spirit world. Her only remaining son, William, resides in California. She was of a quiet and retiring disposition and was highly respected by all who knew her. Her grandson, Mr. James Harris, and great grandchildren and many friends are left to mourn for her. Her remains were laid to rest in the West [Creek] cemetery by the side of her husband there to quietly slumber until the resurrection morn. The relatives and friends have our sympathy in this their dark hour of bereavement.
NOTE: The West Creek Cemetery index at the Lowell Public Library shows that Rachel Ferguson died Apr. 3, 1889, (83 years, 5 months, 17 days) and was buried in row S8, next to her husband Samuel Ferguson, who was 61 when he died June 8, 1855.
