Pfc. Maurice Gord, with the U.S. Marines at Camp Pendleton, Calif., enjoyed a visit with his grandmother, Mrs. Sadie Cadwell, and aunt, Mrs. Neil Love and husband, here last week. He went to Hammond on Saturday to visit his mother. Maurice looks like army life agrees with him. He left for the west coast camp Sunday, where he has just completed his course in business administration and is employed in the office.

Word received by Mrs. Sadie Cadwell informs her that her grandson, Maurice Gord, has landed safely at an overseas port with the U. S. marines.

Writes from South Pacific

The following letter was received last week by Mrs. Sadie Cadwell from her grandson, Cpl. Maurice "Sammy" Gord, stationed "somewhere" in the Pacific:
Dear Gram;

Received your V-mail letter a couple of days before I was transferred here, so I waited to use the address. It seems like all I've done is change my address every time I write. I guess this will be the last time for a while though. I am working in an office again but it's a different type of work than I have ever done before.

Next time you go by the Tribune office will [you] change the address to the one I have now? I haven't received any copies of the paper since I left the states, but I guess they'll catch up with me eventually.

Conditions here are about the nicest I have ever seen overseas except in New Zealand. The chow is very good so far. We have ice cream every noon and have had fried chicken twice since I've been here, and corn on the cob once. Also have free one-day laundry service twice a week, which is a great help. It is practically necessary to put on clean clothes every day because it is so warm.

MAURICE F. GORD IS MARRIED IN CALIFORNIA

We have received announcement of the marriage of Maurice F. Gord, a former Lowell boy, to Elizabeth Sage, in the Asbury Methodist church at San Diego, California. The Rev. Alec Gerald Nichols presided at the double ring ceremony.

The groom was reared here and is a graduate of Lowell high school, class of 1940. Soon after graduating he enlisted in the U.S. Marine corps, where he served until being discharged recently. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Gord, now reside at Ft. Wayne.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Sage, of San Diego, Calif.

"Sammy's" many friends here in the old home town join us in extending congratulations and best wishes to he and his bride.

Maurice F. "Sam" Gord, age 67, of San Diego, Calif., formerly of Lowell, passed away Tues., Nov. 7, 1989, in San Diego. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Gord; three sons, William, Daniel and Richard; two granddaughters, and three sisters, Shirley McKeever, Jean King and Guyneth Johnson. A memorial service was held in California, where cremation took place. A 1940 graduate of Lowell High School, Sam Gord was senior class president of the Class of 1940 and was also active in many other school activities. As a young man, he worked at the Lowell Hardware Store and the Lowell Dairy. He joined the U.S. Marines and served in the South Pacific during World War II. A longtime resident of California, he was a certified public accountant.
