Pvt. Don Haberlin, with the medical corps at Fort Sam Houston, Tex. has been here the past week visiting his parents, the Charles Haberlins. This is Don's first furlough since he entered the service several months ago.
This May 6, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Pvt. Donald Haberlin has been transferred to the Medical Supply Depot at Nashville, Tenn.
This May 4, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
Recent letters received by the Charles Haberlins from their son, Pvt. Donald Haberlin, stationed with the medical corps in Italy, reveals that he and his brother-in-law Pvt. Robert Kennedy, in the engineer corps, met a short time ago "somewhere in that country." This accidental meeting resulted in both boys getting a day off to talk over home-town and family news.
The following October 26, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5 column 4:
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Haberlin and daughter, Dorothy, visited their son and brother, Donald, at Great Lakes naval training station, Sunday. They found Donald getting along well with his training and feeling fine.
This January 4, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
The Charles Haberlins received a letter last week from their son, Pfc. Donald Haberlin, who is with the U.S. forces in Germany. Don said that he was feeling fine, but that he wasn't receiving much news from home.
This November 29, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
After 25 months overseas service, Donald Haberlin, T/4, has received his honorable discharge from service, arriving home Monday.
The following article from the Southlake Register, June 13, 1990, can be found in the Local History Files at Lowell Public Library (LH--Vital Statistics, vol. 2, page 72):
Donald (Chink) Haberlin, 73, Lowell, died June 5.
He is survived by wife, Alberta; four brothers, Elmer and Arthur, Lowell; Vern, Cedar Lake; Harold, Hebron.
Mr. Haberlin who donated his body to the Indiana State Anatomical Board, was a retired farmer. He was a World War II veteran, member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post 6841, charter member of the South County Conservation Club, and a former employee of Globe Industries.
