Isaac Handley (1830-1907)

Isaac Handley, son of James and Rebecca Handley, was born in Richland County, Ohio, April 1st, 1830. With the family he moved to Lake County, Indiana, in the summer of 1853, settling in Orchard Grove. He was married to Susan Spaulding Dec. 11, 1856. To their union was born two children, one of whom died in infancy, the elder, Wallace, living at Kouts, Indiana. His first wife died Oct. 16, 1894. He was married to Mary Ann Dittie, August 25, 1900.

Mr. Handley was converted and united with the Methodist Episcopal Church in the same winter of his marriage, fifty years ago, since which time he has maintained an irreproachable Christian character. He taught school for a number of years both in this state and Illinois, and for a time filled the office of Justice of the peace. He always had the respect and confidence of the people with whom he lived, and was recognized as a man of integrity and honor. He died at his home in Crown Point Jan 23, 1907, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 28 days, following a stoke of paralysis received Sunday evening, Jan. 20. He leaves a widow, two brothers, G.B. Handley, of Fairbury, Nebraska, and the Rev. David Handley of La Porte, Ind., one son, Wallace Handley, residing at Kouts, Ind., and six grandchildren.

The interment was made on Friday at Orchard Grove, following a brief service held at the late residence by the Rev. Dunlavy.
