Lt. Hargrave was a member of the crew of the U.S. destroyer Monaghan, which had been in active duty in the Pacific for some time, and which, together with two other destroyers of the Pacific fleet, went down during a typhoon recently with a heavy loss of life. Before his enlistment in the navy he was employed as chief ordnance clerk at the West Virginia Ordnance Works, Point Pleasant, Virginia.
He was graduated from North Judson high school and the School of Business Administration, Indiana University, in the class of 1938.
Besides his wife, the Lieutenant is survived by a daughter, Mary Jo, who is staying with her mother in Valparaiso. His parents now reside at Oxford, where his father has been pastor of the Methodist church since leaving the Lowell church two years ago.
