Sarah Jane Ritter, daughter of Jacob and Sally Ritter, was born in Bolivar, Ohio, August 11, 1843, and was 64 years and 8 months of age. She came with her parents to Lake county, Indiana, when but a child, where she resided until she was united in marriage to Simon Hayhurst in July 1866, when they moved to Yellowhead township, Ill., which has ever since been her home. To this union four children were born, two dying in infancy. The remaining children are Mrs. Earl Hayden, of Sherburnville, and Mrs. Henry Hanson, of Fort Dodge, Iowa. Her husband died October 9, 1890. She was again united in marriage to Thomas Hibbs in April 1891. Aside from her husband and daughters she leaves nine grand-children, three brothers and six sisters and numerous other relatives and friends to mourn her. She united with the Christian church in early life and was ever a faithful and devoted Christian. She was a loving wife and mother and ever ready to help those in need or sickness and will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Her funeral, which was largely attended, was held at the Christian church in Sherburnville April 13, 1908. Nathan Worley preached the funeral discourse.
