The following undated, unidentified newspaper article was found in a copy of Helen Craft's Scrapbook at the Lowell Public Library:
Welcome Hill was born September 22nd, 1818, near Hartford, Conn., died 31st, 1895, at the age of 76 years, 8 months and 9 days. He came from Connecticut to Ohio with his parents and shortly afterwards came to Cedar Lake, Lake county, where he resided until his death. He was married to Caroline Lafler on July 8th, 1841, from this union eight children were born, of which four survive him. His wife Caroline having died December 26, 1890, he was again married to Mrs. Jane Clark at Toledo, Ohio, September 14th, 1892. Funeral services were held at the M.E. church June 2nd, conducted by Rev. E.P. Bennett. Mr. Hill was one of our true and honest citizens, an industrious and prosperous farmer, respected by his neighbors and acquaintances and his loss is deeply mourned.
