John F. Holmes (1825-1904)

John F. Holmes was born at Hightstown, New Jersey, February 1, 1825, and died at the home of his daughter-in-law, Mrs. F.F. Holmes, of Plum Grove, March 24, 1904, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 24 days.

In the prime of life he joined the M.E. church at Highstown, N.J., and remained a member till his death. He leaves two sons and one daughter, a number of grand-children and a host of friends. He will be sadly missed from the home he just left. But our loss is his gain.

A short funeral service was held at his late home Saturday, Rev. D.D. Hoagland officiating, after which his remains were taken to Crown Point; from there they were sent to his old home in New Jersey for interment. The Tribune extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives and friends.

Dearest Grandpa how we miss you,
In the sad days just gone by;
Since you left us sad and lonely,
For your home up in the sky.

Though you're gone, you're not forgotten,
And your place can ne'er be filled,
We will keep your memory sacred,
'Till our hearts in death are stilled.
