This unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated 1942, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
PASSED AWAY IN CHICAGO HOSPITAL TUESDAY
Miss Helen Johnson, who was born here, and lived in Lowell with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Johnson, until they moved to Hammond about 30 years ago, passed away very suddenly in a Chicago hospital Tuesday. She had been ill for several days with pneumonia.
She leaves her mother, Mrs. Harry M. Johnson, of Chicago. Services were held in Chicago yesterday and interment will be made beside her father, a former Monon agent and bank cashier here, at Delphi.
Miss Johnson studied music at Maryland College for Women in secretary in Connorsville, Ind., and Lutherville, Md., and worked in Chicago after graduating from Hammond high school.* She joined the Tri Kappa sorority while in Connorsville.
*NOTE -- The next to the last sentence, which is confusing at best, actually was written that way in this article.
