It was his first visit to his homeland since he came to the United States in 1903.
He is being shipped here for memorial services which the Rev. William Adam, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran church will conduct at the Eskridge Funeral Home and burial will be made in the Lake Prairie cemetery, beside his wife, Kate (Eden) Kettwig, who died January 15, 1956. Kate, also born in Germany, came to the U.S. when Joe did. The couple were married in 1909. The Kettwigs came to Lowell from Dyer 26 years ago.
Survivors include ten children, John of Edmonton, Ky., Peter of Cedar Lake, Mary Massoth of Lowell, Henry of East Gary, Ann Alinowski of East Chicago, Harold of Lowell, Kate Guritz of Crown Point, Lena Dick of Hobart, Hilda and Joseph, Jr., of Lowell, also 16 grandchildren. His wife's sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Emil Einsele of Hammond, are the only other close relatives in the country.
