The following unidentified newspaper article was in a collection owned by Lowell Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Sam Kight was born in Vermillion county, Ill., February 18, 1841, and was past 83 years old [when he] departed this life March 17, 1924. When still in his infancy his parents moved to Missouri, settling near Memphis and resided there until the fall of 1855, when the family moved near Momence, Ill., and resided there until the spring of 1867 when the family again removed to Lake township, Newton County, Ind., where he resided up to about five years ago since which time he has made his home in Hammond. On November 1887 he was united in marriage to Miss Mary Simonds, who preceded him in death. One daughter Bessie resides near Kentland, Ind.
He was one of a family of eight children, four girls and four boys, six of whom have preceded him in death. One brother, Joseph K. and one sister, Mrs. Sarah A. Gundy, who live near Rose Lawn, survive.
The funeral services were held at the home of Joseph Kight at Rose Lawn Friday at 2 o'clock by Rev. C.A. Brown, pastor of the Lowell . . . [The article is cut off here.]
