The following May 30, 1968, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 1, columns 7-8:
Communications Technician Second Class Edward M. Langeland USN, son of Mrs. Dorothy P. Langeland of 357 S. Main St., Crown Point, Ind., was advanced to his present rate while serving at the U.S. Naval Security Group Activity, Kamuseva, Japan.
His advancement was based on time in service and rate, military appearance, performance of duties and passing the Navy-wide test for promotion.
