CHRIS LASSEN CAR HITS MAN
MAN STRUCK IN HAMMOND, DIES WHILE BEING TAKEN TO HOSPITAL
Joseph Rodvill, a machinist of Hammond, was struck by a car driven by Chris Lassen, one of the owners of the Lassen hotel at Cedar Lake, last Friday night. The accident happened on Calumet avenue in Hammond near Adams street. Lassen, with his brother, Harry, was driving south on his way home to Cedar Lake when the accident happened. Rodville's clothing became entangled in the bumper of the car and he was carried about 75 feet before he dropped loose. When help came he was lying on his face in an unconscious condition and blood was streaming from a cut on his head. The police were notified and they were soon on the scene with an ambulance and the man was rushed to the hospital but he died before arriving there.
Mr. Lassen is nearly overcome with grief that the terrible accident happened and did all in his power to try and save the man's life.
Mr. Lassen was held awaiting the verdict of the coroner's jury. An inquest was held and after evidence was all taken the verdict was that it was an unavoidable accident, and Mr. Lassen was exonerated from all blame for it.
The Lassens were preparing to take in inland water trip to Miami, Florida, and were returning that night from Chicago, where they had been putting the finishing touches on their house boat, "The Lassen." This sad occurrence on the eve of their departure will probably delay their departure
