With Mrs. Mabrey, well-known authority on flower arrangements, he had lived in this community for nine years. During the 20 years that he was a Chicago grade school principal they made their home in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
Affiliation included Crown Point Kiwanis club and Lake County City Farmers club.
With his wife, Blanche, a daughter, Mrs. Margery Johnston, survives, with two grandchildren Barbara and Kenneth. Mrs. Johnston, with the girls, was here for a visit at the time of her father's death. A sister, Mrs. Pearl Spaugh, lives in Westfield, homeplace of the Mabrey family.
After services conducted by Rev. L. Humphrey Walz of First Presbyterian church and Rev. Jasper H. Cox of First Methodist at 2 o'clock in Merriam's funeral home, the body was taken to Westfield for burial in Little Eagle Creek cemetery.
