He entered Billings Memorial hospital for surgery from which he never rallied.
A past president of the Lowell Lions club, Mr. Matter had an active interest in civic and school affairs and it was under his presidency that the community athletic field was sponsored and built by the Lions.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Levi Matter, Walter Wallace Matter was born on October 23, 1892, at Wheatland, Ill. He came to Lowell 13 years ago from Hessville where he operated a food mart. He had greatly enjoyed these past thirteen years, living in his lovely farm home on Lowell's west side. A favorite pastime was bowling. He participated in league play and enjoyed a wide acquaintance.
Rev. Wendell Johnson officiated at memorial services held at two o'clock Monday in the Weaver funeral home. Services were also held at Naperville, Ill. on Tuesday, conducted by Rev. Westerberg.
Interment was in Naperville.
Survivors include his wife, Lydia Hunt Matter and his children, Cyril, of Big Rock, Ill.; Jean Landry, Gulfport, Miss.; Wendell, of Sugar Grove, Ill.; Robert, Hickley, Ill.; also three sisters, Agnes Mallon of Naperville, Beatrice Dale of Aurora and Florence Willis of St. Louis, Mo., and a host of friends here and at his former home.
