For her wedding, Mary Avis chose an afternoon dress of soft gray-blue crepe with draped neckline, short cape sleeves and accessories of navy blue. Her corsage was of gardenias and sweet heart roses.
Her bridesmaid, Miss Miriam Ruge, who at present is working in New York, was dressed in a sheer suit of light gray with accessories of black. Her corsage was of red rose buds.
The groom's best man was Lt. Gilbert McNethy of Midland, Mich., a shipmate of Lt. McCoy aboard his destroyer.
The bride is a graduate of Purdue university and received her degree in Home Economics. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority. Lt. McCoy received his degree in Mechanical Engineering at Purdue, where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. He was commissioned in the naval reserve at the United States naval academy at Annapolis, Maryland, and has served as assistant engineering officer on a destroyer in the Mediterranean for 18 months. When he returns to sea duty about July 1, Mary Avis will return to her position at Fowler, Ind., as Home Demonstration agent for the Indiana State Agricultural department and Purdue university.
