The following newspaper article, hand-identified as being from the May 12, 1955 Tribune, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
JIM McKINNEY INJURED IN ODD ACCIDENT
Jim McKinney's host of friends and relatives anticipate his return home soon from Gary Mercy hospital where he has been confined since last Thursday morning. Enroute to Aurora, Ill., driving one of the Belanger Equipment Company's heavy trucks, Jim was just this side of the railroad viaduct at North Hayden when a plow became detached from a vehicle ahead driven by Fred Miller, The plow slid beneath the truck and overturned it into the ditch on the south side of the road. Jim suffered a slight concussion and was severely bruised. A big "knot" swelled over his eye causing much discomfort. It is fortunate that Jim was driving the heavy cab for it provided life-saving protection.
