This unidentified newspaper article, dated February 5, 1931, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Another serious accident happened on Rd. No. 41 Monday morning when a large Cadillac sedan smashed into a tree near the home of Will Nichols. Mr. and Mrs. Rasmussen of Milwaukee, were on their way to visit friends at Evansville, Ind. He lost control of the car when he tried to avoid hitting a cow that had broken out of the pasture on the Emil Harding farm, and wandered on the highway. Mr. Clauss, who lives on the Harding farm, was trying to get the cow back in the pasture at the time of the accident. The couple was carried to the home of Mr. Nichols and given first aid by Dr. Page. Tilton and Worland were called, and they were taken to the Hammond Hospital in the ambulance. It is thought that while the lady had a broken leg and the man bad cuts about the face, that neither was hurt internally. The car was a total wreck.
