When the jury read the verdict O'Reilly fell fainting to the floor as his attorneys had given him to understand that he would be freed.
The jury deliberated several hours and we understand that seven of the jury were for the death penalty and five not and the verdict for life was a compromise verdict.
When the verdict was announced Mrs. O'Reilly began to shriek, villifying the attorneys for not freeing her husband as they had promised. The court room was a scene of great excitement with the wife cursing everybody and the prisoner in a faint, but finally quiet reigned and the prisoner was led to the cell to await his trip to Michigan City penitentiary for life.
The evidence brought out in the trail of O'Reilly showed that McCabe was the man who did the actual shooting and his trail will come up within the next few days.
These two murderers will find that murderers are more severely death with here than in Illinois where they came from.
