Elizabeth Pattee was born February 13, 1837, and died at her home in Lowell June 13, 1907, at the age of 70 years and 4 months. December 13, 1862, she was united in marriage with Wesley Pattee. To this union six children were born, three of which survive their mother. George Casimir died May 16, 1885; Celeste, wife of Preston Saylor, died August 21, 1890; and baby Guy, March 6, 1881. Mrs. Pattee was a teacher in the Laporte and Lake county schools for about 8 years. Early in life she united with the Baptist church at Door Village, Laporte county, Indiana. After moving here she united with the Christian church of Lowell. She was ever faithful to her vows made in youth and was always found a willing worker in the cause of Christ. She was ever ready to lend a helping hand to any worthy cause, her counsel always being timely and good. Although in feeble health for several months, she went through her sufferings uncomplainingly. Twenty-two years ago she was called upon to part with her mother and son in death within two months. Her faith in her Saviour made [her] hopeful and trustful. She knew in whom she believed and was persuaded that He was able to keep that which she had committed unto Him against that day. She at the close of a useful life can say as did Paul, "I have fought a good fight; I have finished my course; I have kept the faith. Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, shall give me at that day, and not me only, but unto them also that love His appearing." A grand woman has passed from among us, and will be greatly missed and mourned by all who knew her. Her funeral occurred from the Christian church, Lowell, which was filled, thus attesting the esteem in which she was held, Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Her former pastor, Rev. A.M. Hootman, preached the funeral discourse. He was assisted by Elder . . . [The article is cut off at this point.]
