A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
William H. Pixley was born in Unionville, Lake County, Ohio, October 10, 1824. Died at his home in Lake County, Indiana, January 6, 1897. Aged 72 years, 2 months, and 26 days. He had been a patient sufferer for years; his last sickness being very painful but he was never heard to complain. He was a graduate of the Alleghaney College of Meadville, Penn., and spent his early manhood teaching school in various states. He came to Indiana when it was a scantily inhabited prairie and purchased his late home from which nothing but death could separate him. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge of Lowell and although poor health prevented attendance, was loyal to its teachings. He was a believer in God, and although not a member of any church he was strictly honest in all his dealings, a kind husband, loving father and a good citizen. In the year 1848 he was married to Esther Harding who departed this life May 23, 1859, leaving one child. April 10, 1860 he was married to Annie Scritchfield. To this union were born ten children; two having died in early childhood. He leaves a wife, four sons, four daughters, one brother, and one sister to morn his loss.
