Upon landing at O'Hare Field, direct from Seattle, Washington, Sfc. Potter was greeted by a barrage of relatives, including his wife, Lina and three children, Christina, Robert, and Patricia. Also there for the reunion were his sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Shropshire, their children Chuck and Patti, and another sister, Barbara Ann Williams from Chicago, Illinois.
Sfc. Potter has been with the Army since graduation from Crown Point High School in 1960. He was stationed in Italy for 5 years and while there visited in Germany, France, and Switzerland. Sfc. Potter is especially proud of a commendation award from the Italian Government for his part in helping train their army in new techniques in signal and communications operations. While in Italy, he met and married the former Lina Bassani in Belluno, Italy.
Sfc. Potter completed basic training in Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, and advance training in Signal and Communications in Ft. Gordon, Georgia. During the past year he has acted as a trouble-shooter for signal and telephone equipment over a major portion of South Vietnam. His last tour of duty is over, and he does not plan to reenlist. He says he longs to be just a "civilian" again, and plans to enjoy every minute of it!
