Jim's lifetime work was that of mason contractor and his excellent workmanship can be pointed out in all sections of the Lowell community.
Born at Yates Center, Kansas on April 11, 1888, Jim came to Lowell when two years old with his parents, Thomas I. and Abby L. Powell and family. He attended Lowell schools and throughout his lifetime acquired a host of friends.
Survivors include a son, Joseph of South Chicago; one brother, Walter of Lowell; four sisters, Mrs. Iva E. Nichols and Mrs. Alice Ruley, both of Lowell, Miss Lettie Powell of Palm Beach, Fla., and Mrs. Anges Machacek of Gary; and one grandson, Joseph Powell, Jr., of South Chicago.
The Rev. E.L. Worley officiated at memorial services held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Sheets Funeral Home and interment was made in the Lowell cemetery.
