The following November 11, 1920, Lowell Tribune article appeared on page 4, column 1:
A surprise party and shower was given at the home of Margaret Brownell Friday night for Mr. and Mrs. John Ross. There were about fifty present. Mr. and Mrs. Ross received many beautiful gifts of silver ware, money, cut glass hand painted china, linen, pyrex and aluminum ware.
The evening was spent in playing games and visiting. Delicious refreshments were served and the guests departed expressing themselves as having spent a very enjoyable evening.
The following April 22, 1943, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 4, column 2:
Mrs. Lillian Brownell, accompanied by her brother, Joe Hughes, and her sisters, the Misses Elizabeth and Amanda Hughes, of Chicago, were in Valparaiso to help their sister, Mrs. John Ross, celebrate her birthday.
