Frank Schmal can feel very thankful that he wasn't killed last Thursday when the car which he was driving was struck by the fast Monon passenger train last Thursday afternoon. The train, which was southbound, is due at Lowell a few minutes after one o'clock in the afternoon & Mr. Schmal was on his way down town and had just got on the track when he saw the train coming. When the crash came, the back end of the car was still on the track and was badly damaged, but Mr. Schmal escaped without injury and not knowing that his car was badly damaged, drove on up town to attend to some business. The train stopped as soon as possible after the accident and backed up to the station to let the crew ascertain how serious it had been, and the train crew were very much surprised when they learned that no one had been killed.
