A copy of the following unidentified newspaper article was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
George Scritchfield was born at Leroy, Ind., January 5th, 1873, and died at his Creston home November 5th, 1892, aged 19 years, 10 months and 10 days, of consumption. His mother proceeded him to the Spirit Land only about six months ago, of the same dreaded disease -- consumption. George was loved and respected by all who knew him, he was a regular attendant at Sunday School and church, and his last words were to his father a few moments before he died: "Don't cry pa, I am going to see ma." The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, conducted by the Rev. Bennett where a large concourse of friends and relatives gathered to pay their last respects to the dead.
