The following June 29, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 3, column 2:
Three Lowell Soldiers Together
The following letter from Pvt. Robert Ewer, who is taking a course at Medical Technicians school, Lawson General Hospital, Atlanta, Ga., was received by his parents, the Fred Ewers, last week:
Here's one for the news. While I was standing in the chow line tonight, who should tap me on the shoulder but Ed Witt from Lowell high. After expressing my surprise at meeting him, he asked if Mr. Selett, our former science teacher, was here. I assured him that he wasn't, but he insisted that he saw a man that looked just like him. After I ate, I began a search and sure enough, I found a man who looked exactly like Mr. Selett. This was three weeks before I actually knew he was here. It's too bad I graduate and leave the two Lowell fellows here, but we still have three weeks together.
I imagine Mr. Selett wonders why I looked at him so long before I spoke. I told him it was because I thought he was in Alaska.
