This unidentified newspaper article, hand-dated Feb. 1914, was found in a scrapbook owned by Town Historian Richard Schmal:
Last Thursday night about 11:30 the Sigler hotel at Cedar Lake was discovered on fire. When the fire was discovered it had such a headway that it was impossible to save anything, except the piano and a few smaller things. The building was burned to the ground, together with all the contents. The hotel was occupied by Mr. and Mrs. Arthur McLaughlin, and we understand they had no insurance on the contents; hence the loss to them will be rather heavy. The Sigler hotel was one of the most popular hotels at the lake, and it will be missed by many pleasure seekers who have been coming there during the summer months.
