Mary Austgen Spanier (1848-1928)

Mary Austgen was born in Germany, July 9, 1848. In 1854 she came with her parents to America and settled at St. John, where she continued to reside until her marriage to John Spanier in 1868. To this union six children were born, four of whom died in infancy. Two daughters, Mrs. Katie Metcalf, of Lowell, and Mrs. Ella Fiegle, of Crown Point, survive her. Her husband passed away November 6, 1906.

Mrs. Spanier has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Metcalf, for several years. She has been in very poor health for the past several months. She passed away at the home of her daughter on December 10, 1928, at the age of 80 years, 5 months and 1 day.

Funeral services were held at the Turkey Creek cemetery beside her late husband.

Besides her two daughters, she leaves to mourn her eight grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

She was a woman who had a large circle of friends who will sincerely mourn her death.
