Byrl Cornell, who works at the Wilbur Lumber Co. yard, saw the trouble and went to their assistance. He tried to push the car off the tracks, but he could not move it. By this time the train was nearly to the car and Mr. Cornell yelled to the ladies and children to leave the car. They had just got clear of the car when the crash came. Had not Mr. Cornell come to their assistance all four of the occupants might have been killed. The probable reason that the car could not be moved was that it was still in gear.
The front end of the car was a total wreck. The motor was thrown on the sidewalk in front of the McNay coal yard.
It was certainly most fortunate that the occupants of the car were not killed or badly hurt.
