In a January 28, 1943, Lowell Tribune article (page 2, column 2) it was mentioned that Pvt. Bertram Stark was transferred from Ft. Harrison to Camp San Luis, Obispo, California.
This January 20, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
Pvt. Bertram Stark, son of George Stark, arrived home Tuesday on a 10-day furlough, following two months of maneuvers in Tennessee.
The following information was found on page 1, column 6 of the Aug. 10, 1944, Lowell Tribune under the heading "Local Boys Wounded in Action":
The third casualty in France, Pvt. Bertram Stark, son of George Stark of Lowell, was reported by the war department to have been seriously wounded in action on July 17th.
The telegram to his father stated that a letter and change of address would follow. He will be hospitalized in England.
Mrs. Veryl Little, a sister of the wounded man, received a letter from him, written and sent by the Red Cross, which stated only that he had been wounded and unable to write, and that he was being moved to a hospital in England.
Pvt. Stark, 21, has been in the service since January, 1943, and landed in England about three months ago. He participated in the invasion with an infantry unit.
Pvt. Stark has one brother, Pfc. George, who is now stationed on Guadalcanal.
The following November 9, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 1:
In Massachusetts Hospital
George Stark has received word from the War Department that his son, Pvt. Bertram Stark, who was wounded while fighting with U.S. forces overseas, is now in the United States, and is recuperating at a hospital at Camp Edwards, Mass. No word has been received from Bertram as yet.
The following December 28, 1944, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 5, column 2:
Pfc. Bertram Stark, a patient at the government hospital, Indianapolis, has been here for a few days visiting his father. George Stark, and other relatives. A leg wound which he received in action near St. Lo, France, is responding to special treatments and he expects to soon walk without crutches.
This Lowell Tribune article was found in the February 15, 1945, issue (page 2, column 1):
Pvt. Bertram Stark, who was wounded in France several months ago, is here visiting his father, Geo. Stark, and other relatives. Bert is taking treatments at an army hospital near Indianapolis
This June 27, 1945, Lowell Tribune article was found on page 2, column 2:
Pfc. Bert Stark, who was wounded during the heavy fighting in France shortly after D-Day, and who has been hospitalized most of the time since, except for short visits home, has received his honorable discharge from the service.
