Phillip Stuppy (1868-1920)

Phillip Stuppy, son of Phillip and Elizabeth Stuppy, was born in Dolton, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, December 17, 1868, and died at his home in Lafayette, June 25, 1920. He came with his parents when only a child to Cedar Lake, where the home was located and where he grew to manhood.

In the year 189_ he was united in marriage with Miss Ella Rollins, also a resident of that locality, who died in 1918: To this union were born five children, four daughters -- Florence, Bessie, Bertha, Ruth, and one son -- George, all of whom survive him.

Mr. Stuppy was a member of the Presbyterian church, an active worker and firm believer.

Besides the children he is survived by three brothers and one sister who, with other relatives and friends, mourn his departure.

The deceased was a man who bore the respect of all who knew him. He made friends with all whom he met. He was a man whom it was a pleasure to know and the world is better off for him having lived in it.

Funeral services were held in the Lake Prairie Presbyterian church Monday at 2 p.m. and it was filled by his former neighbors and friends, who gathered to pay their last respects to their departed friend and neighbor. Rev. J.J. Simpson, of Crown Point, former pastor of the Presbyterian Church here, preached the funeral sermon. Interment was made in the Lake Prairie cemetery. Undertaker William Sheets had charge of the burial service.
