In the case of State of Indiana vs. Tony Chaplic was tried in the Criminal Court Tuesday of last week, and the jury brought in a verdict of guilty, assessing the punishment at a fine of $1000 and six months at the Indiana State Farm.

Chaplic was accused of causing the death of Catherine Swieringa b striking her with an automobile, on Ridge Road, near Munster, July 7, last.

The man, who was in the car with Chaplic, named Peter Gudinas, was tried during October, this year, and received the same sentence as Chaplic. Gudinas was said to have been driving the car that knocked down and caused the death of the Swiergina girl.

William J. McAleer, of Hammond, and Floyd S. Draper, of Gary, represented the state, and Harold E. Styles, of Gary, represented the defendant.
